This morning I got to take a nice warm shower. For breakfast, we were served scrambled eggs and toast. The eggs were quite salty and the butter was odd. I will definitely have to adjust to the food.
After breakfast, my host brother took Sabina and me to USFQ where IES picked us up for orientation. Quito kind of reminds me of Montana in some ways, but a bit more intense: the mountains are much taller and it is much more densely populated. Driving was kind of scary because the roads are like a paved FDR road where everyone goes about 40mph through the narrow, twisted, and crowded mountainside.
Orientation was quite boring as the information was already presented in the handbook they gave us. I wish it had been more interactive so I wouldn't've wanted to nap. The best part of today was lunch! IES took us to a nice restaurant with a beautiful view of Quito and the mountains. We were served yummy bread and butter with an orange salsa, a savory potato/yucca cake, chicken stir fry with rice, and a fruit custard/cheesecake type dessert.
After orientation, we stopped at our host mom's jewelry shop to say hi. My day gets uninteresting after we left, as I decided to take a nap for a few hours. Dinner was plain and felt kind of American with bread, mashed potatoes, and chicken. Now it is time for bed again so that I can be more awake for orientation tomorrow :)
I also have US cell number that I can text with over wifi: +16144207660
